Prospective Member FAQ
Looking to learn more before joining? Here are some common questions we receive from members to be!
What do I need to do to become a member?
You'll need an email or a connection with Facebook/Gmail, ideally live or work in the Worcester area (as we host most of our events nearby), and a valid payment method to become a member.
How long is the membership season?
Our season runs from September through May/June of the following year. We take a break between planning for the upcoming season and enjoying the summer!
How often do you meet?
During our season, we generally host 1-2 events per month.
Do I need to be a member to come to YPWA events?
Most of our events are open to the local community; however, a few events each season are members-only. Those events will indicate that tickets are only available for members.
Any age requirements/limitations?
Don't let the Y in our acronym throw you. First, we do not have any age or membership tenure limitations. Age is just a number, and we love the spirit and heart that ALL of our members bring. On a related note, we welcome cis or trans women or a non-binary person who is comfortable in a space that centers around women to join our association. We are a welcoming community and strive to make space to support all members.
Who generally joins YPWA?
We have a variety of members from many industries with different career/personal goals. Several of our members are entrepreneurs (we featured a few of them on our Women of Worcester page). Others are involved in the community or are looking to get plugged into Worcester. Many of our members are actively job searching or may even be recruiting. Our mission is to improve and empower our members and community, which speaks to a wide range of women in the area.
When's the best time to join YPWA?
Anytime is a good time to join, but perhaps the best time would be early September before our kickoff. That would give you the best access to the entire season's events, most of which would be free or at a reduced rate.
I want to sign up for membership. Where do I go?
Complete our membership sign-up form by clicking on that link or selecting the Join link at the top right-hand side of the site. Next, click the New Member Select button, and you'll follow the step prompts:
You'll create a site login. This login will give you access to our Member Directory and the ability to check your membership status.
Once you create a login, you'll follow the prompts to complete your payment. We do accept payment through most major credit cards and PayPal.
Once you select the Buy Now button, a confirmation page should pop up, and you'll receive an email confirming your purchase. Please review the confirmation page or email, as it has a Google form link for you to provide us with some demographic information and the details you would like shared in the Member Directory. You may also elect not to participate through this form.
What comes with my membership?
You'll have free access to all our events, or your ticket will automatically be at a discounted rate. Some events are exclusive to members only, while others allow non-members to join for an event fee. In addition, we have several discounted rates for area businesses and association memberships. They are all listed at the bottom of this page. It will also give you access to our Member Directory which lists contact details about current YPWA members, giving you access to tons of local connections! Whether reaching out about getting involved with a nonprofit, or just to grab a drink after work, we find these connections priceless.
What kinds of events do you host?
We love a healthy mixture of types of events, with fun and welcome at the center. Events fall into at least one of these categories:
Not sure I want to invest in a membership.
Totally understand, we get that a membership with us is an investment. Prospective members are welcome to attend one of our events to test the waters. If you decide to join at the end of the event, contact us at email@example.com, and we will apply that event's ticket cost or a percentage off the ticket cost to your membership.
Do you offer any discounted membership?
Not at this time, but we do offer discounts toward the beginning of our season and about mid-season (December).
I have a membership through my employer. How do I access my sponsored subscription?
Sweet, your employer should share a private link to complete signing up for membership. If you have not received this link, please contact YPWA through our site form or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
