During the month of November, we celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends and reflect on the many ways in which we are fortunate. This is also a time when supporting the less privileged in our community is most important. Last year, we initiatedThanksGIVING—a YPWA day of service, which we hope will become a long-standing November tradition.
On Saturday, November 14, we will partner with Andy’s Attic for the 2015 ThanksGIVING event. Andy’s Attic provides new and gently used clothing, shoes, backpacks and school supplies to needy children, teenagers and families throughout Worcester County. Last year, they filled over 1000 orders. Founded by The Reese Family in memory of their son Andrew, Andy’s Attic is located at South High Community School in Worcester and mostly run by student volunteers.
Our day of volunteering at Andy’s Attic will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the opportunity to learn more about the organization. We will then work together to provide much-needed services such as filling orders, folding and organizing clothing, and writing thank you cards to donors. We expect to be done around noon.
If you are interested in joining us, please email email@example.com
Also, we are asking that all participants consider bringing an item from the Andy’s Attic needs list:
- New men’s, women’s and boys’ underwear
- New men’s, girls’, and boys’ socks
- New or gently used boys’ clothing (toddler & children’s sizes)
- New or gently used hats, mittens, gloves, scarves – all sizes
- New or gently used winter boots – all sizes
- New or gently used boys’ winter jackets
- Children’s books
- Walmart gift card (this will be used by Andy’s Attic to purchase clothing)
If you are unable to attend but would still like to donate items, please contact us, and we will arrange a time to collect your donations.
