Community Outreach – Friendly House

Join us on Saturday, May 6th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to take part in an exciting opportunity to give back to the community!
Friendly House is a local nonprofit that first opened its doors to the Worcester community in 1920 as a small, three-room settlement house with a mission to promote neighborhood health and welfare for the betterment of Worcester and to further the interests of Worcester’s immigrants. Since then, Friendly House has expanded its services to now provide shelter, food services, case management, and after school and summer camp programs for Worcester’s at-risk youth.
Friendly House operates a shelter on Elm Street that houses up to thirteen families at any given time. The backyard at the shelter was recently closed, deemed too dangerous for the children to play in. Years of wear and tear, along with limited funds for repairs, have taken their toll on the yard.
This is where you come in! Help us renovate the shelter’s yard and restore it to a safe place for children to play. We’ll be working in the yard, gardening, assembling toys, and painting, so please wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes. We will provide water and snacks. Generous sponsors, including Country Gardens and Miller Fence, are providing the funds and materials to enable us to make this project happen.
We’re asking volunteers to consider bringing a donation with them on our day of service. The shelter is currently most in need of twin-sized sheet sets, twin-sized blankets, and stand-up/pedestal fans to help cool the house during the summer months.
Please RSVP by Tuesday, May 2nd to take part in this rewarding day. We look forward to seeing you there!
