The YPWA is pleased to announce our first community outreach event of the 2016-2017 season! The 7th annual Abby’s House HipHipHerRace 5K run/walk is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the West Boylston Middle/High School.
Abby’s House is a multi-service resource center, providing shelter, housing and advocacy for homeless and abused women and their children in Worcester. Since 1976, Abby’s House has provided more than 11,500 women and children with a safe place to stay, regroup and rebuild.
The YPWA is excited to announce two ways you can help support the Abby’s House shelter, housing and advocacy programs at the race:
Volunteer with us! – For the last three years, the YPWA has been stationed along the 5K route holding signs, staffing water tables and cheering on the walkers/runners. Volunteers should plan to arrive at the race by 7:00 a.m. to get set-up. The final walkers typically cross the finish line by 10:00 a.m., so this would be an approximately 3 hour time commitment for interested volunteers. Use this RSVP form to sign up.
Run the race! – Abby’s House Volunteer Coordinator Jean Anger and her coworker Ellen have started team “Jellen for Abby’s” and have set a goal of signing up 50 volunteers. Members and friends of the YPWA who run can help them achieve their goal by joining Team Jellen and running (or walking) the race. Interested runners should go to the Abby’s House registration website, select “join a team” when registering and selecting team “Jellen for Abby’s.” Pre-registration is open untilOctober 10th.
